Thank you, Mr. President.

I would like to begin by thanking France for its excellent drafting work during this complex negotiation, and all the delegations for their willingness to find solutions.

Switzerland welcomes the unanimous extension of UNIFIL's mandate for a further year. This unanimous adoption sends an important signal to the region, and in particular to the parties concerned. It demonstrates that the Council is aware of its responsibility to contribute to a long-term solution to the conflict, in accordance with Resolution 1701.

Switzerland confirms its full support for UNIFIL, also as a troop-contributing country through UNTSO. Every day, UNIFIL personnel carry out important work under difficult conditions. We thank them and recall in this respect that all parties have an obligation to ensure the safety of UNIFIL personnel. Several of them have been injured, which is unacceptable.

Switzerland is extremely concerned by the intensification of violence on both sides of the Blue Line, which has already claimed numerous civilian victims and displaced tens of thousands.

We strongly call for a return to a complete cessation of hostilities on both sides of the Blue Line, and for an immediate recommitment by the parties to implement all the provisions of Resolution 1701.

Furthermore, all parties must respect their obligations under international law, including international humanitarian and human rights law.

Only diplomatic efforts can lead to a lasting solution. Switzerland supports all ongoing efforts in this regard.

I thank you.
